Rome, GA - Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann is set to join the Rome Braves on Friday in Greensboro for a major league rehabilitation assignment. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, McCann is expected to be in Rome on Wednesday May 1st when the Braves open a seven game homestand. He was placed on the disabled list after right shoulder surgery and wrist soreness.

McCann is a five time National League All- Star and five time Silver Slugger award winner. He played in Rome during the inaugural 2003 South Atlantic League Championship season and hit .290 with 12 home runs and 71 RBI. McCann returned to Rome in 2006 for a rehab stint going 2-7 in two games and is the only former Rome Braves player to have his number retired.

"We are excited to have Brian with the team despite these circumstances. I hope this rehab will prepare him to return and contribute to the major league club," says Rome General Manager Michael Dunn.

The next homestand promises something for all including 10:30am Education Day games on May 2nd and 7th, Star Wars Night on May 3rd, and Soccer Ball Giveaway Night May 4th. Call 706-378-5144 for tickets.
