The Records: The Broncos are 10-17-3-1. They are 6-7-1-0 at home and 4-10-2-1 on the road. The Broncos sit 6th in the East Division and 10th in the East Conference. The Broncos play their next 5 at home.
The Broncos are 5 points behind Edmonton in the Eastern Wildcard standings for the 2nd playoff spot.
The Rockets are 23-7-1-0 this year. They are first in the BC Division and on top of the Western Conference. The Rockets are 1-1-0-0 in two games on their East Division road trip winning 4-3 in Regina Friday night and losing 5-1 to Brandon on Saturday.
Big Guns: Rockets forward Tyson Baillie is the league's leading scorer with 18 goals and 51 points. Broncos forward Jon Martin leads the league in goals with 25. Jon Martin leads the league in game-winning goals with 6. Baillie has 5.
Last Game: The Broncos won their second in a row, 5-2 in Cranbrook vs The Kootenay Ice Saturday night. Swift Current had 5 different goal scorers and scored twice on the power play, their first power play goals in 8 games. The Broncos were not assessed any penalties in that road win.
The Rockets are coming off a 5-1 loss in Brandon Saturday night.
VS The Rockets: This is the first and only meeting of these teams this season. Kelowna won last year's meeting 4-0 in Kelowna. Carter Rigby, who would be traded to Swift Current days later, had 2 goals and an assist.
Broncos Add Miller to Roster: The Broncos claimed Arthur Miller off waivers from the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL Wednesday. Miller played 3 games for the Titan this season. Last year, Miller played on the SMAAAHL championship team in Regina along with current Broncos Tyler Adams and Conner Chaulk. Miller had 31 goals and 54 points in 43 regular season games. Miller made his Bronco debut Thursday night wearing #25.
Sick Bay: Tyler Steenbergen returned from injury Thursday night. He missed five games. Steenbergen sustained an upper body injury the last time the Broncos played in Cranbrook. Glenn Gawdin is still out 2-3 weeks and Jordan Harris is out week to week. Cole Johnson is out indefinitely.
Special Teams: The Bronco power play is 16.7% (17/102), which is 19th best in the WHL. The penalty kill is 84/104. That is 12th best in the league at 80.8%.
The Rocket power play is third best in the league at 23.7% while the PK is 11th best in the WHL at 80.9%
Leaders: Jon Martin leads the team and The WHL in goals with 25. Martin is 7th in the WHL in scoring with 42 points.
Landon Bow is 4th in WHL in saves with 719.
Jon Martin leads the team in plus minus with a +16. Rookie defenseman Artyom Minulin is 2nd on the team in plus/minus with +8.
Jon Martin leads the team in power play goals with 4.
Jake Debrusk has 2 short-handed goals to lead the team in that stat.
Kade Jensen leads the team in penalty minutes with 40.
Heward Back from World U17's: Broncos assistant coach Jamie Heward has rejoined the team after a stint as assistant coach of Team Canada Red at The 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Heward and Team Canada Red lost to Sweden in the Bronze Medal game Saturday.
Broncos Prospects Shine in U16 Challenge Cup: 3 members of the Broncos Bantam Draft class of 2015 took part in the U16 Challenge Cup in Calgary. Josh Prokop and Jacob Bernard-Docker were a part of Gold Medal winning Team Alberta. 2000 born prospect Riley Stotts led silver medal winners Team Manitoba in scoring. Broncos Assistant General Manager Jamie Porter and Goaltending Coach Derek Purfield also lent their talents to Team Alberta.
Central Scouting with an Eye on Max: Max Lajoie has again received an A level rating by NHL Central Scouting on the players to watch list. Lajoie is a late birthday 1997 born player who is draft eligible in 2016. Lajoie was one of six WHL prospects to get an A level rating last week. An A rating indicates a 1st round candidate in the NHL entry draft. Swift Current has had first round selections in the last two NHL entry drafts (Julius Honka in 2015, Jake Debrusk in 2015)
Drafted Broncos: Glenn Gawdin was selected in the 4th round by the St. Louis Blues in 2015. Jake Debrusk was a 2015 first round pick of the Boston Bruins.
Who's the Best? The WHL recently named its Top 125 players of all time. Fans can vote for their favorites. After fan voting, the greatest all time players in the WHL will be named this season. Former Broncos on the list are: Cody Eakin, Dan Lambert, Adam Lowry, Joe Sakic, Brian Sakic, Bryan Trottier and Tiger Williams.
The Roster: The Broncos have 24 players on their roster.
Imports are Andreas Schumacher from Sweden and Artyom Minulin from Russia.
20 year olds are Jon Martin, Scott Feser and Landon Bow.
