Seattle Sounders FC News Release

It's a long trip east yet Seattle Sounders FC is flying with some added air under its wings. Unbeaten in three matches, the Rave Green will face the Eastern Conference leader, Philadelphia Union, on Saturday. Kickoff is 1 p.m. PT at PPL Park in Chester, Penn., and the game will be televised live on KONG 6/16 and THIS-TV.

Sounders FC (1-2-2) is beginning one of the more demanding phases of the 2011 schedule, playing four of the next five games on the road, including three fixtures in the Eastern Time Zone. Next week Seattle visits the Colorado Rapids, holders of the MLS Cup.

Philadelphia (3-1-0) is going for its third straight home win this season, having dispatched the New York Red Bulls, 1-0, last week and Vancouver earlier. In their inaugural season, Union played eight of the first 10 matches on the road while PPL Park was being completed.

This marks the third meeting between the expansion teams of 2009 and 2010. Philadelphia's first match was a 2-0 loss in Seattle on March 25, 2010, and Sounders FC was the first visitor to PPL Park on June 27, 2010, falling 3-1.

In its brief existence, Sounders FC has fared reasonably well on the road in general, and the East Coast in particular. PPL Park and New England's Gillette Stadium are the only venues Seattle has yet to claim at least a point thus far.

After an uncharacteristic slow start, the Rave Green are beginning to hit their stride. Following a pair of draws against Houston and San Jose, Seattle beat previously unbeaten Chicago, 2-1, at home last week before its 35th straight capacity crowd on the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field.

Young guns O'Brian White and Steve Zakuani each scored their second goal of the new season. It's possible that the club's career scoring king, Fredy Montero, may also be available this week after missing two games due to wrist surgery.

Philadelphia has been involved in four 1-nil scorelines so far, allowing only one goal and scoring three.

Arlo White will describe the action on both KONG and 97.3 KIRO FM. The game is also being broadcast on La Gran D 99.3 FM.

Seattle plays the Colorado Rapids on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. PT, then returns home to host Toronto FC on April 30 7 p.m. PT. For Sounders FC tickets go to www.SoundersFC.com or call 877-MLS-GOAL.
