Missouri River Otters News Release
Most Recent Match-Up: Friday, February 24: Elmira 6, Missouri 5 (Shootout)
Konstantin Kalmikov led a late rally for the Elmira Jackals as they sank the Missouri River Otters 6-5 in a shootout Friday night in front of 2,204 fans at the Family Arena.
The River Otters surged to a 1-0 lead on a shorthanded goal. Blake Stewart made a terrific move around a Jackals defenseman, went in on a breakaway, and fanned on the puck, but it slid between the pads of Jackals goaltender Nick Boucher. Elmira came back with consecutive goals to take the lead, with the first on a power-play slap-shot by Trevor Burgess and the second on a breakaway goal by Kevin Cooper.
The second period got off to a fast start when Kalmikov smoked a high wrister above the outstretched glove of Kevin Reiter to make it 3-1. The River Otters came roaring back with three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead. The first came on a breakaway by Paul Falco, the second on a rebound backhander by Jim Duhart, and the third on a deadly accurate one-timer by Mark Odut.
The score stayed 4-3 until the late moments in the third period when Chris Chaput buried a rebound with three minutes left in the game to tie the score. The Jackals then took a 5-4 lead less than a minute later when Kalmikov fired home the rebound of his own shot for his second goal of the game. Then in dramatic fashion, Duhart tied the game at five with one minute to play in the game with a scintillating wrist shot.
In the shootout, Kalmikov and Jason Sessa scored for the Jackals while only J.P. Beilsten could convert for the River Otters. Boucher made 27 saves in the victory while Reiter made 34 saves in defeat.
