Missouri River Otters News Release
River Otters Most Recent Game: Wednesday, April 5: Richmond 5, Missouri 0
Mike D'Alessandro made 37 saves as the Richmond RiverDogs blanked the Missouri River Otters 5-0 at the Richmond Coliseum.
Richmond took a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Todd Grant and Mike Oliveira. The RiverDogs extended their lead to 4-0 in the second period, getting goals from Bobby Kukulka and John DiPace. Oliveira added a third-period empty-netter to seal the victory.
Vipers Most Recent Game: Wednesday, April 5: Adirondack 6, Roanoke Valley 3
Sylvain Cloutier exploded with four goals as the Adirondack Frostbite defeated the Roanoke Valley Vipers 6-3 at the Roanoke Civic Center.
The Vipers had a 3-2 lead going into the final period on goals by Mark Scott, Jan Jas, and Michael Wiggins, but the Frostbite took control after that. Cloutier scored his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th goals of the game in the third period and Greg Koehler registered three points alone in the final period. Mike Boudreau made 22 saves in the victory while Glenn Ridler made 22 saves in the loss.
Most Recent Match-Up: Friday, February 10: Roanoke Valley 6, Missouri 5
David Beauregard registered four points as the Roanoke Valley Vipers broke their ten-game winless streak with a 6-5 victory against the Missouri River Otters in front of 2,834 fans at the Family Arena.
The Vipers surged to an early lead as Mike Wiggins scored a goal 20 seconds into the game to extend his point streak to 12 games. Ten minutes later Beauregard, who scored four goals in the UHL All-Star Classic at the Family Arena, sent home a bad-angle shot to give Roanoke Valley a 2-0 lead. Momentum shifted late in the opening period when Jimmy Callahan buried Charlie Elezi in front of the net and Jim Duhart fired the puck between the pads of Vipers goaltender Trevor Cunning to put the River Otters on the board.
Missouri started strong in the second period when Duhart fired home a pinpoint-accurate wrister for his second score of the game. The remainder of the period was dominated by the Vipers, however, as they received goals from Jonathan Charette, Petr Jelinek, and Wiggins to take a commanding 5-2 lead.
The River Otters got back onto the game two minutes into the third period when Frank Littlejohn deflected a Jeff Brown shot into the net. But again the Vipers responded as Beauregard scored his second goal of the game to make it 6-3. The River Otters came roaring back with goals from Steve Makway and Mark Odut to bring their squad within one goal. They couldn't complete the comeback, however, as the Vipers won 6-5. Cunning made 29 saves for his first victory of the season while Reiter made ten saves in defeat.
In Search of 500: River Otters veteran sniper Jim Duhart is six goals shy of 500 for his prolific career. The Otters have 5 games left in the season for Duhart to try and join the 500 club. He'll need to average a shade over one goal-per-game during that stretch to reach the milestone.
Road Woes: The River Otters are embroiled in the funk of a five-game road winless streak, the longest current road winless streak in the league. They'll look to break that streak tonight against Roanoke Valley.
Wiggin' Out: Roanoke Valley forward Michael Wiggins has been on fire recently with seven goals and seven assists in the last ten games. The skilled forward leads his squad with 33 goals and 61 points this season.
Otters Next Game: The River Otters take on the Roanoke Valley Vipers Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center to complete their weekend set. The puck drops at 6:30 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Networks, located at www.riverotters.com.
