Home sweet home SAFC opens at home for the fourth-straight season, having avoided a loss in all of the last three opening matches. San Antonio boasts a 2-0-1 record when hosting the first contest of the season, with a +4 goal differential. Under head coach Alen Marcina, SAFC is 2-0 on the opening night and has not allowed a goal in either of the first two matches. Since 2016, SAFC is 4-1-1 in season-opening matches with +7 goal differential and four shutouts.
Back from a short offseason San Antonio FC returns six players that started in last season's Western Conference Final, the deepest into the playoffs SAFC had ever advanced. The club fell in PKs to Orange County SC, the eventual league champs. The returners include veteran leadership from club all-time appearance leader Matt Cardone, captains PC and Connor Maloney, as well as forwards Santiago Patiño and Justin Dhillon.
