Game Day Preview: Pats Kick off Three in Three Weekend in Saskatoon

The Regina Pats (12-25-0-1) kick off a three in three weekend on Friday night on the road against the Saskatoon Blades (23-11-5-0). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at SaskTel Centre. The Pats saw their three-game win streak come to an end on Tuesday in a 5-3 loss at home to the Prince Albert Raiders. The Blades were last in action on Tuesday as well, beating the Swift Current Broncos 5-2. Tonight is the second of six meetings between Regina and Saskatoon, the Pats are 1-0-0-0 so far in the season series. Tonight's game can be heard with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey starting at 6:35 p.m. on 620 CKRM .

The Lead Up: Max Paddock makes 51 saves in Pats 5-3 loss to Prince Albert Tuesday

Max Paddock made 51 saves to kick off 2019, but the Prince Albert Raiders edged the Regina Pats 5-3 at the Brandt Centre on Tuesday. The Raiders outshot the Pats 18-4 in the first period, but Paddock stopped them all and it was scoreless after one. Early in the second, the Raiders scored shorthanded to take the 1-0 lead. The Pats drew even late in the frame, Robbie Holmes scored on a breakaway for his eighth and it was 1-1 after two. In the third, Prince Albert took a 2-1 lead with a powerplay goal, but the Pats responded 14 seconds later to tie it up. Liam Schioler from the left circle for his third and it was 2-2. 1:22 after that, Riley Krane picked up his seventh of the season and the Pats took their first lead at 3-2. The Raiders came back with a tying goal at 11:04 and then a powerplay marker at 15:39 to take the lead back at 4-3. The Pats pulled Paddock late, but Prince Albert scored into the empty net with one second left and took the two points in a 5-3 final. The Pats were outshot 56-23, the powerplay was oh for three and the penalty kill three for five. Riley Krane led the offence with a goal and an assist, while Max Paddock was fantastic making 51 saves.

Pats complete three trades Thursday

The Pats made three separate trades on Thursday, seven days ahead of the WHL trade deadline. First the club acquired 17-year-old forward Blake Allan from the Kootenay ICE in exchange for 18-year-old defenceman Marco Creta. Later in the morning, the Pats received a third-round pick in 2019 from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, sending 19-year-old forward Scott Mahovlich and an eighth-round pick in 2019 to the Canes. Finally, the Pats picked up 17-year-old defenceman Tyson Feist and a 10th round pick in 2019 from the Spokane Chiefs for a fifth-round pick in 2021 and an eighth-round pick in 2019.

Post-Christmas Goaltending

Pats' goaltenders Max Paddock and Dean McNabb are off to a strong start to the second half of the season. The two 18-year-olds have combined to go 3-1-0-0 with a 2.25 goals-against-average and a .937 save percentage. Paddock is 2-1-0-0 in that stretch, with a 2.33 goals-against-average and a .937 save percentage. McNabb is 1-0-0-0 since Christmas with a 1.00 G.A.A. and a .977 save percentage and is the reigning WHL Goaltender of the Week.
