GAME DAY PREVIEW: Pats Kick off Four Game Home Stand against Edmonton

The Regina Pats (4-4-1-0) kick off a four game home stand on Sunday when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings (4-6-0-0). Puck drop is at 4:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats are coming off a 2-1 win in overtime in Prince Albert on Friday while the Oil Kings scored three unanswered in the third period to hand the Swift Current Broncos their first loss of the season, 4-3 on Saturday night. Sunday will mark the first of four meetings between Regina and Edmonton in 2017-18. Tonight's game can be heard starting at 3:35 with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up: Brown Stellar in OT win Friday Tyler Brown made 25 saves and Josh Mahura scored the game winner as the Pats beat the Raiders in Prince Albert, 2-1 in overtime on Friday night. The game's first goal came in the final minute of the second period when Emil Oksanen put home a rebound for his eighth of the year. The Raiders would tie it up early in the third when Spencer Moe picked up his second of the season and that forced overtime. In the extra frame, Josh Mahura buried his third goal of the season five-hole on Curtis Meger at 1:55 to give the Pats the extra point in a 2-1 final. Regina outshot Prince Albert 33-26, the powerplay was oh for four and the penalty kill three for three. Matt Bradley led the offence with a two assist night while Sam Steel chipped in with a helper as well.

Penalty Kill Coming Around The Pats penalty kill is finding its stride after a tough start to the season. Over the last five games, Regina has killed 19 of 22 penalties taken for an 86.3 per cent success rate and also scored a shorthanded goal. Conversely, in the first four games of the year, the Pats went nine for 19 while down a man (47.3%), and did not score while shorthanded. In the five game since, the Pats have not given up a powerplay goal in two games and given up a single goal in the three other contests. The overall penalty kill percentage has jumped 20.2 per cent since game four of the year and sits at 67.5 per cent, (27 for 40).

Bradley Keeps Rolling Pats forward Matt Bradley continues to put up multi-point games to start his career in Regina. The Surrey, B.C. product picked up two helpers on Friday in Prince Albert and has points in all nine games to start the year. The overager has scored eight goals which is tied for the team lead and has 10 assists for 18 points over his nine game point streak. In six of the nine games, Bradley has put up two or more points. Once with four, once three points and four times with two. Bradley enters Sunday, fifth in league scoring with his 18 points.
