Bounceback Blazers
The Winterhawks are back in Canada for the final time this regular season, wrapping up their season series against the Kamloops Blazers. Despite their last-place standing, the Blazers have been a dangerous team as of late with wins in 11 of their last 19 contests - just shy of a 40-win pace over 68 games. Even more impressive is who the Blazers are beating, with wins over Prince George, Victoria, Kelowna and Wenatchee in that mix.
Detroit Red Wings prospect Emmitt Finnie is producing at just shy of a point-per-game clip for the Blazers with 53 in 54 games, while trade acquisitions Jordan Keller and Blake Swetlikoff have been impactful since joining the club. Rookie Matteo Koci has found his clutch gene with three game-winners in the last month, and defenseman Harrison Brunicke is enjoying a breakout campaign in his first NHL Draft-eligible season.
Sweep Dreams
Portland completed a four-game season series sweep of the Victoria Royals with Saturday's 5-4 OT thriller, and they'll look to do the same at the Sandman Centre this evening. The Hawks have outscored Kamloops 18-5 in three games thus far, including wins of 7-1 and 7-3 earlier this year. Gabe Klassen and Luca Cagnoni each boast eight points against the Blazers, and all but three current Winterhawks have recorded at least one point in the season series. As was the case on Saturday, it'll take a group effort for the Hawks to complete a second sweep in the last week.
