Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos did their part, but didn't get the help they needed from the Calgary Hitmen on Wendesday night as they try to earn their spot in the 2024 WHL Playoffs.
The Broncos defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 8-2, where all but three Broncos earned at least a point in the game. It was somewhat revenge as well for the Broncos after they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Oil Kings on Saturday.
Broncos Defenceman Tyson Galloway said it was nice to get the Oil Kings back just days later.
"I think after a disappointing one on Saturday in Edmonton, we were pretty excited that we got a chance to get them again tonight," he said. "We came out firing right from puck drop and we didn't take out foot off."
Clarke Caswell scored twice including once in the first to start the game, and once again in the third. Scoring in the first was joined in with Luke Mistelbacher, and Connor Hvidston. Gavin Hodnett scored for Edmonton and it was 3-1 through one period.
Ty Coupland scored the lone second period goal and it was 4-1 after two periods.
Galloway scored his first of his Broncos career in the third period, and said while it was nice to score, the two points was more important.
"Whenever you get on the scoreboard, it feels good," Galloway said. "I think coming out with an 8-2 win was the better feeling."
Mat Ward and Brady Birnie both joined the goal scoring action in the third, concluding the 8-2 win for the Broncos. Cole Miller added the other Edmonton goal.
Reid Dyck earned his 21st win of the year with a 21 save performance. The Broncos were 1-for-2 on the powerplay, and the penalty kill was 4-for-5.
The Broncos are back in action on Saturday, hosting Brandon. The Broncos will just need a point in that game to officially earn a spot in the WHL Playoffs.
