Tonight

The Saskatoon Blades return to action after a full week of practice following last Saturday's Home Opener victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Saskatoon heads into Brandon to open a home-and-home series against the Wheat Kings, which will wrap up next Wednesday at SaskTel Centre.

This is the Blades second road game of the season, following up their first game of the campaign last Friday in Moose Jaw, which saw the ice tilt the Warriors way in a 7-1 setback.

Brandon opened the 2021-22 regular season with back-to-back losses to Winnipeg - outscored 17-3. However, the Wheaties are coming off their first win of the campaign Friday night, handing the Prince Albert Raiders a 5-2 loss.

Who to Watch

Alternate captain Tristen Robins is coming off a strong performance in his first game of the season, scoring the game-winner shorthanded and adding an assist in a 4-2 win over Moose Jaw. The pending WHL graduate recently took part in San Jose Sharks training camp last month and was returned to the club ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

Newly acquired forward Trevor Wong notched his first marker as a Blade last Saturday, opening the scoring just 2:07 into the contest. The Vancouver, BC product, who led the Kelowna Rockets in scoring last season, was acquired by the Blades last week in a trade which sent forward Colton Dach to BC.

Veteran netminder Nolan Maier stopped 32 of 34 shots Saturday to earn the game's first star and his franchise-record 92nd career victory.

Tale of the Tape

The Saskatoon Blades-Brandon Wheat Kings rivalry was in full effect in the 2021 Hub Season, with both teams trading shots over the course of four games.

Saskatoon earned the season-series edge, holding a 3-1-0-0 record and outscoring the Wheat Kings 15-11, but Brandon took the divisional crown at the season's end with 38 points compared to Saskatoon's 35.

Three of Brandon's four losses in regulation came against Saskatoon. Blades alternate captain Kyle Crnkovic led all skaters with seven points (3G-4A) in those four games.

Historically, neither team holds much of an advantage, with the Blades holding an 11-10-1-1 record against Brandon over the last five seasons.
