Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - Hours after being named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week, RHP Casey Lawrence was pounded for six earned runs on 10 hits in three innings as the Hammerheads beat the Blue Jays 6-1 Monday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Entering the game, Lawrence led the FSL in ERA, WHIP and opponent's batting average. But the red-hot Hammerheads' bats put a dent in his sparkling pitching line, ending his night prematurely and charging him with his first loss of the season.
RHP Anthony DeSclafani allowed his first earned run of 2013 in the game-raising his ERA to 0.44. He yielded nine hits in five innings while striking out three.
Including DeSclafani's outing Monday night, Hammerheads starting pitchers have a 2.16 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 24 starts this season.
The two offenses combined for 19 hits off the starting pitchers. The bullpens shined from there, as five Jupiter and Dunedin relievers combined to limit their opponents to three hits over nine scoreless innings.
The Hammerheads got on the board first, scoring a run in the second inning on an Isaac Galloway RBI single. Galloway added two more hits, giving him his third consecutive three-hit game. He also scored and drove in a run. Galloway has hit .688 (11-for-16) in his last four games, raising his batting average 64 points to .323.
Four straight batters reached with two outs in the third, fueling a three-run inning. Ryan Fisher came up with the big hit, a two-run double. Fisher was 2-for-20 with runners in scoring position before that at-bat.
Jupiter opened the fourth inning with four consecutive singles, including run-scoring hits off the bats of Josh Adams and Daniel Pertusati.
Austin Barnes went 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted in, extending his hitting streak to nine games. He's hitting .514 (19-for-37) since last Friday and his .370 overall batting average is third-best in the Florida State League. The Hammerheads have now won three of their last five, and have guaranteed themselves no worse than a split in this four-game series with the Blue Jays. After starting the year on an eight- game losing streak, Jupiter is 8-8.
Andy Haines' club will look for their first three-game winning streak of the season Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. RHP Jay Rogers will start for Jupiter and oppose Dunedin's RHP Jesse Hernandez.
