Syndergaard Pitches Mets Past Yankees 9-2

Noah Syndergaard struck out seven and allowed an unearned run over a season-high seven innings as the Mets cruised past the host Tampa Yankees 9-2 on Sunday.

The Mets have won three straight games and took the opener of a four-game series with the Yankees.

Dustin Lawley had a two-run double in a three-run fourth inning and later scored on a fielding error. Lawley had two hits and three RBIs.

Aderlin Rodriguez had an RBI double and Travis Taijeron added a two-run double in a four-run eighth inning for the Mets.

Robbie Shields went 4-for-5 with two doubles and scored three runs to pace the Mets offense.

Syndergaard allowed five hits and one walk in seven innings to earn his first victory.

Hamilton Bennett allowed one run and struck out three in two innings of work.

The Mets visit the Yankees in the second game of the series on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
