Frisco RoughRiders News Release
MIDLAND, TEXAS (May 10, 2015) - The Frisco RoughRiders have run into some hot bats through the first two games against the Midland RockHounds. Midland followed up its 25-hit performance on Saturday with 17 on Sunday afternoon to take game two 10-3.
The RoughRiders scored in the top of the second when Joey Gallo led off with his third home run of the season giving Frisco a 1-0 lead. Gallo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double in addition to his solo blast.
The RockHounds responded with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second off Chad Bell to quickly erase the deficit.
In the third inning, Josh Whitaker hit a two run home run, his first of the season to increase the RockHounds lead to 5-1.
Jorge Alfaro doubled home Nomar Mazara to make it a 5-2 deficit in the fourth inning before Drew Robinson picked up his 15th RBI of the season to score Alfaro.
Trailing 5-3, Bell allowed a solo home run to Chad Pinder with one out in the fourth, but escaped the inning with a fly out to right leaving runners on the corners.
Zach Neal shut down 10 consecutive hitters in innings four through seven, which was broken up by Robinson's 26th walk of the season only to be erased one batter later on a double play. Neal, who had allowed 12 earned runs in his previous two starts, was much better against Frisco tossing seven innings to pick up his third win of the season. The Riders managed just three hits against Neal, who struck out four.
Colin Walsh and Ryon Healy hit back-to-back home runs as part of a four run sixth inning for the RockHounds. All four runs were charged to Cody Buckel who worked 1/3 of an inning before giving way to Cody Ege. Ege worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his second appearance with Frisco. That is the 16th time this season the Riders have allowed a four run inning, and the eighth such occurrence since May 5.
Bobby Wahl worked two innings in relief, giving up the RBI double to Gallo in the ninth inning before striking out Royce Bolinger to secure the 10-4 victory for Midland, its third straight.
The Riders have lost five in a row and turn to Jose Leclerc (1-1) on Monday night. Chris Jensen (3-2) takes the mound for the Midland RockHounds with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The Riders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on Thursday, May 14, another "Thirsty Thursday," and "Groovy Grubesday" so fans can enjoy $1 domestic beers and Dr Pepper products from 6 - 8 p.m. For tickets to see the Riders this season, please call (972) 731-9200, e-mail Info@RidersBaseball.com or visit www.RidersBaseball.com.
