Portland Beavers News Release

MEMPHIS - John Gall's solo home run with one out in the 11th inning off reliever Marty McLeary was one of five home runs hit in the game and gave the Memphis Redbirds a 4-3 victory over the Portland Beavers Wednesday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

The Beavers (16-18) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI single from Jon Knott, but John Mabry hit his second home run of the game off Portland closer Bart Miadich with one out in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings, where the Beavers have lost three straight.

Mabry hit a two-run homer off starter Matt Bruback in the first inning to give Memphis (16-16) its first lead.

Xavier Nady hit two home runs for the Beavers--his second and third of the season. His solo homer to lead off the top of the second cut the Redbirds' lead in half and his home run to lead off the seventh tied the game at 2-2.

Chad Paronto (4-1), who picked up a save in Memphis' 1-0 win on Tuesday, got the win and McLeary (0-1) took his first loss of the year.

Knott extended his current hitting streak to nine games and Nady pushed his to eight.

Bruback, who lost his previous five starts, pieced together his best outing of the season in the no-decision. He allowed two runs on just two hits and struck out five in 7.0 innings, his longest outing of the year.

Alan Benes was his equal through 7.0 innings, giving up the two solo home runs to Nady and limiting Portland to five hits in his time on the mound.

NOTES: The Beavers are 3-3 in extra innings ... former Beaver Jason Pearson worked 1.1 innings, giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth ... Nady is the first Portland batter with two home runs in a game this season ... the Beavers are 2-8 at AutoZone Park in four seasons of play and have lost eight straight there ... three of Memphis' five hits were home runs ... the Beavers out-hit the Redbirds, 9-5.
