San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio kicked off their six-game homestand with a 4-2 win over Arkansas Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.
The Missions struck first Tuesday, taking a 1-0 lead against Travs starter Michael Roth (2-3) in the bottom of the second on a two-out, RBI single by designated hitter Rocky Gale.
After Arkansas drew even in the third with an RBI triple from Taylor Lindsey, San Antonio went back on the attack with a three-run rally in the fourth. Jeudy Valdez put the Missions up for good with a one-out double down the left-field line. Two batters later, Gale gave his team a 4-1 lead when he stroked a two-run single to left.
Gale finished the game 3-for-4, setting season highs in both hits and RBI (3). Gale's last three-hit game came in August of 2012 for Triple-A Tucson. His last three-RBI performance came in June of 2012 when he was with High-A Lake Elsinore.
Arkansas cut the deficit to two in the seventh against reliever Tim Sexton when Ryan Jones hit into a run-producing force out. However, that's as close as the Travelers would get as Leonel Campos and Jeremy McBryde (10th save) each tossed scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth to close out the San Antonio victory.
Starter Donn Roach (7-10) picked up the win for the Missions after allowing just one run on four hits and no walks, while striking out four over five innings. It was the first victory at the Wolff for Roach since May 24, which also came against Arkansas. In 11 home starts this season, Roach is 4-4 with a 1.94 ERA.
San Antonio (65-49, 27-18) and Arkansas (58-56, 25-20) resume their three-game series Wednesday on a WellMed Senior Slugger Night at the Wolff. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Eddie Bonine (1-2, 3.89) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Travs counter with Mark Sappington, who will be making his Double-A debut.
Notes: Rico Noel stole two of the Missions' four bases in Tuesday night's win. Noel, who leads the Texas League with 48 steals, moved into fourth place on the Missions' Wolff-era, single-season stolen base list.
