LA Galaxy News Release

CARSON, CA (Wednesday, July 19, 2006) - The Los Angeles Galaxy, the defending 2005 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champions, will open their run in the 2006 edition of the U.S. Open Cup with a fourth round match against Dallas Roma FC of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association (USASA) on Tuesday, August 1 at 7:30 pm in The Home Depot Center's Track and Field Complex on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, the club announced today. Following the match, members of the Galaxy will sign autographs from the field for fans in attendance.

"We've all been captivated by the Cinderella story that is Roma FC, but the fairy tale is about to come to an abrupt end," said L.A. Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "We look forward to hosting the overachievers from Texas in the next round of the Open Cup and exposing them to a quality MLS side."

Tickets will be general admission and cost $10 for Adults and $5 for Youths (16 and under) and are available today beginning at 11am by calling the Galaxy toll-free at 1-877-3GALAXY. All Galaxy full Season Ticket Holders will receive complimentary tickets for this U.S. Open Cup match. Parking will be $10 on the day of the match at The Home Depot Center.

While the Galaxy earned automatic entry into the fourth round of the knockout tournament, Roma FC, from the North Texas Premier Soccer Association, will be playing their fourth game of the tournament. Roma FC advanced following a dramatic 4-2 penalty kick (0-0 draw) defeat of Chivas USA on July 12 at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The victory marked the first time in U.S. Open Cup history that a USASA team has defeated an MLS club.

On June 28, Roma FC surprised Brazilian star Romario and Miami FC (USL- Division 1) at the University of Texas in Richardson, Texas, earning a 1-0 victory. In the first round, Roma FC opened the tournament against the Laredo Heat SC (PDL) at UISD Student Activity Complex in Laredo, Texas with a 2-2 tie before advancing 4-2 on penalty kicks.

Dating back to 1914, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is a 90-year-old single-elimination tournament.

The U.S. Open Cup is very similar to domestic cup competitions popular throughout Europe, South America and the rest of the world. Cup competitions, which usually run concurrent with a country's league season, are open in the early stages to any club that can qualify, giving local amateur teams a chance to compete against the best teams a country has to offer.
