Colorado Mammoth News Release

Denver, Colo. – Gary Gait has already rewritten every record in the sport of indoor lacrosse. He may be about to do it again.

Gait may be the first player in the sport's history to score 1,000 regular season career points.

All eyes will be on Gait Friday night when the Colorado Mammoth hosts the San Jose Stealth at Pepsi Center. With two regular season games remaining, the Mammoth captain stands just shy of the 1,000 point mark with 994. He is the National Lacrosse League's all-time scoring leader with 551 goals and is second all-time with 443 assists. This season, Gait is averaging 5.5 points per game (3.07 goals per game and 2.43 assists per game).

Gait scored 14 points, including 10 goals, on Jan. 9, 1999, against the Toronto Rock, when he played for the Baltimore Thunder. The 10-goal game is a league record, one he shares with his twin brother, Paul. The 14-point game also is a league record he shares with two others.

"Anyone who has ever seen Gary play can appreciate the importance of this milestone," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "He's a very special athlete and this achievement is truly remarkable."

Gait also has the record for most goals in a season – 61 with the Colorado Mammoth in 2003. He has led the league in goals six times – 1995-1999 and 2003 – and is the league's current goals leader with 43 so far this season. He has led the league in points six seasons and led the league in assists twice.
