Arizona Sting News Release
Glendale, Ariz: Arizona Sting captain Peter Lough was named National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week as Arizona ended Colorado's six game win streak with a 14-13 victory and kept themselves alive in the West division playoff race. In the victory, Lough won 20 of 29 face-offs, collected seven loose balls and held the NLL's leading scorer Gavin Prout to one goal while covering him in the win.
This is the first NLL award for the third year captain. "We have a great group of guys and I was happy to contribute to a huge win we had versus Colorado" said Lough. "We are hoping to keep up our play in the coming weeks in hopes of earning a playoff berth."
Through 13 games this season, he has won 107 of 209 (.512) face-offs and registered 13 points (8G,13A). Lough was originally drafted by Toronto in 1998 and made his NLL debut after signing with Montreal as a free agent in 2001. He played for Columbus last season and was one of 13 players to move with the team to Arizona. In 45 games played, Lough has won 215 of 423 (.508) face-offs, scored 24 goals and added 30 assists.
Arizona is off this week and will return to action with a home and home series versus the Vancouver Ravens. On April 3, the Sting will host the Ravens at 7:30 in their home finale at Glendale Arena and will then travel to Vancouver for a 4:30 pm matinee game on April 4.
