Lancaster Stormers News Release

Blake Gailen, the 2012 Atlantic League Player of the Year, has signed for his fourth season with the Lancaster Barnstormers, it was announced today by manager Butch Hobson.

Gailen, 29, a member of the Barnstormers' 10-year Ring of Honor during the 2014 season, ranks among the franchise's all-time elite players.

In 2012, the left-handed slugger led the Atlantic League in batting with a .338 mark while contributing 22 homers and 89 RBI. The California native also stole 25 bases and crossed the plate 94 times. The following year, before joining the Toronto Blue Jays' Class AAA affiliate in Buffalo, Gailen led the league with 35 doubles and 65 walks while batting .288 with 11 home runs.

Last year, despite playing only 66 games for the Barnstormers, Gailen still was named to the Atlantic League's second All-Star team. He batted .350 with 18 homers, 52 RBI and a staggering 1.107 OPS. The Barnstormers were 45-21 with Gailen in the lineup. He also played 51 games for Tijuana of the Mexican League, hitting .271 with 11 home runs.

In the post-season, the UNLV product batted .367 with two homers and eight runs batted in while adding a game-saving catch in the playoff opener against the Somerset Patriots. Two years earlier, Gailen belted three homers and drove in nine runs in the first two playoff games against York.

Gailen ranks in Lancaster's top five all-time in runs scored, doubles, home runs, batting average and stolen bases.

Prior to coming to Lancaster, Gailen had spent five seasons in professional baseball, putting up staggering offensive numbers. In 2007, the outfielder hit .368 in 42 South Coast League games. Two years afterward, he posted .355 average with Chico of the Golden League. Gailen followed that by returning to Chico and batting .387. In 2011, Gailen rapped out a .406 mark, winning the American Association batting title for Lincoln.

"This guy is one of the best, if not the best, players in the league," said Hobson. "If you look up 'ballplayer' in the dictionary, Blake's picture is there."

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their eleventh season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
