Three More Added to Skeeters Swarm

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the club has added three more players to its 2015 roster including the return of outfielder Denny Almonte. The Skeeters also welcome right-handed pitchers Robbie Weinhardt and Derek Blacksher to Constellation Field.

Almonte, 27, made 20 appearances for the Skeeters last season after a trade with the Bridgeport Bluefish. Originally drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 2nd round of the 2007 Draft out of Florida Christian School, Almonte spent seven seasons in their minor league system. Almonte owns a .237 average with 453 RBI and 112 homeruns in eight seasons of professional baseball.

Weinhardt, 29, was drafted in 2008 by the Detroit Tigers in the 10th round and made his MLB debut in 2010. The Pearland native, made a total of 30 appearances for the Tigers in 2010 and 2011 with a record of 2-2. Most recently, he spent time in their minor league system with the AA Seawolves (2011, 2012, 2013) and AAA Mud Hens (2011, 2013). In his six seasons of professional ball, Weinhardt has earned a 12-11 record with a 2.84 ERA and 19 saves.

Blacksher, 30, is a Texas native and veteran of independent baseball. Originally drafted by the Florida Marlins in 2007 out of McNeese State University, Blacksher has seven seasons of independent baseball under his belt including time with the Atlantic League, Frontier League and American Association.
