Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, NY - Two out plays at the plate, and a great pitching performance from their starter allowed the Lowell Spinners to complete a three game sweep of the Hudson Valley Renegades 2-1 Friday night at Dutchess Stadium.Hudson Valley drew first blood without the benefit of a hit. Third baseman Jim Haley led off the second inning with a walk, then proceeded to steal second. A wild pitch moved him to third before a groundout to third by shortstop Jon Popadics brought Haley in for the game's first run.

Lowell came back with two runs in the fourth. Second baseman Nick Lovullo led off with a walk, then scored on a double by third baseman Andy Perez. On the throw to the plate on the play, Perez went to third then scored on an RBI single from leftfielder Tyler Hill. It was the third RBI of the series for Hill. The inning was a serious speed bump for Hudson Valley starter Eduar Lopez who retired the first nine men he faced.

The Renegades had an opportunity to tie the game in the sixth. With one out, designated hitter Joe Olson picked up his first professional hit with a ground-rule double. He moved to third on a balk, but was then thrown out at the plate, shortstop to catcher, on a fielder's choice by rightfielder Angel Perez.

Hudson Valley almost tied the game again in the eighth off of Lowell reliever Casey Janssen, who was on a major league rehab assignment. With one out, Popadics reached on a dropped third strike. The next hitter, second baseman Miles Mastrobuoni, then ripped a double into right-center. Popadics tried to score from first on the play, but was cut down at the plate on a beautiful relay by the Spinners to keep the score 2-1.

From there, the Spinners retired the Renegades 1-2-3 in the ninth inning to move to 8-0 on the season and complete the sweep of Hudson Valley. The Renegades fell to 3-5. The loss wasted another strong performance by Renegades pitchers who struck out 13 Spinners. Hudson Valley was held to three hits and left only one runner on base. The game was the season's quickest as it lasted 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Lopez (0-1) was the tough luck loser for the Renegades. He retired the Spinners in order in four of his five innings, but the fourth is what did him in as he allowed two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out six.

Lowell starter Enmanuel De Jesus (2-0) got the win after tossing seven innings of two-hit ball. He allowed a run, a walk and struck out five. Closer Gerson Bautista (3) struck out one in the 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to garner the save.

Hudson Valley heads to Brooklyn tomorrow to begin a three-game series against the Cyclones. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00. Lefthander Brock Burke (0-0, 5.79 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Renegades against southpaw Joel Huertas (0-0, 5.06 ERA) of the Cyclones. Hudson Valley returns to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday for the first of a three game series against Staten Island. For tickets, call 845-838-0094 or go to hvrenegades.com.
