Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY - Alex DeGoti hit a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie, and the Tri-City ValleyCats (3-5) didn't look back, beating the Vermont Lake Monsters (3-5) 5-2 on Friday night.
Tri-City tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the 8th, thanks to back-to-back RBI hits from Carmen Benedetti and Randy Cesar.
The ValleyCats, who avoided a three-game sweep with the win, received a solo home run from Taylor Jones, who also doubled and scored two runs. Austin Nicely (1-0) got the win in relief, striking out three batters and allowing only three baserunners in three innings of work.
Brendan Butler had a solid start in five innings for Vermont, allowing only two runs and striking out six. Yordy Alejo (0-1) took the loss for the Lake Monsters, who left ten men on base.
Brett Adcock, pitching in his second start, struck out three batters and walked one in 2 2/3 innings. In relief, Dustin Hunt and Ryan Hartman combined to strike out five in 3 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and a two-run homer to DH Miguel Guzman, the only runs Vermont would score.
Coming into the game, the 'Cats had been averaging over nine runners left on per game, but left only five stranded in their first win since Monday night.
The ValleyCats travel to the Stedler Division-leading Lowell Spinners, who are undefeated this season, for a three game road trip beginning tomorrow. Saturday and Sunday's games are scheduled to begin at 5:05 p.m., with Monday's first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tri-City returns home for a three game homestand on Tuesday to host their first Pinckney Division opponent in the 2016 season, the Williamsport Crosscutters.
