Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

Riese Gaber and Erik Portillo were both named to the All-USHL First Team for the 2019-20 season. The two join three other Fighting Saints as All-USHL selections, giving Dubuque a league-high five players on All-USHL Teams. Gaber and Portillo were cornerstones to a tremendous season for Dubuque as the Saints complied their second-highest winning percentage in team history.

"Erik and Riese were two of the drivers for our team every single night," said Saints GM Kalle Larsson. "They are deserving of this recognition. As they will both be greatly missed in Dubuque, we look forward to following their success in the future."

Portillo was a huge piece between the pipes for Dubuque, making a name for himself in his first USHL season. Despite missing some time with an injury, Portillo still established himself as one of the elite netminders at the junior level. His 2.11 goals against was best in the league and he ranked top five in both save percentage and wins as well. His winning percentage is the second best for a Fighting Saints goalie during the Tier-1 era.

"Roommates Riese and Erik were fantastic this season," said head coach Oliver David. "This is well deserved recognition for their ability to deliver consistent game changing performances."

Gaber did nothing but make history all season for the Fighting Saints in his second season with the team. He finished with 55 points, second on the team, and finished with a league-high 34 goals. Gaber recorded his 100th USHL game, 200th junior hockey game and 100th USHL point during the season. He also established himself as the Tier-1 record holder for most career goals by a Dubuque Fighting Saint with 56 in his career.

Both Gaber and Portillo join an elite group of Saints players who have been nominated for All-USHL First Team honors.
