Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Braves won their second straight against the Tennessee Smokies Wednesday night, 5-2, but in the process had two of their outfielders helped off the field.
Jermaine Allensworth left the game after slamming into the wall making a catch in the top of the sixth inning. While Charles Thomas limped off after hitting a ball down the right field line for an RBI hit in the bottom of the sixth. Both players are listed as day-to-day. Allensworth with a sprained left ankle and Thomas with a strained left knee.
G-Braves starter, Matt Belisle (2-1) picked up his second straight victory with an outstanding effort. Belisle threw seven plus innings allowing only two runs (one earned) on six hits while tying a season high with eight strikeouts. Kazuhiro Takeoka picked up his fourth save of the year as he struck out two working a scoreless ninth.
Smokies starter, Peter Bauer (1-6) had Greenville hitters stymied their first trip through the lineup sending all nine back to the dugout in a row. But the G-Braves bats came alive in the middle innings. They scored one run in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, and one more in the sixth. That would prove to be enough for Greenville to win their second straight against the Smokies.
The G-Braves will host Tennessee for game three of the series Thursday night at 7:15. LHP Jung Bong (3-5; 4.13) will start on the mound for Greenville against Diegomar Markwell (5-3; 3.28).
