Knoxville Smokies News Release
Sevierville, Tenn. - James Jurries capped a five run fourth inning with a three-run home run and the rain did what the Smokies couldn't, ending the 10-5 Greenville win in the top of the sixth inning.
Tennessee (20-12) answered a first inning run from Greenville (16-15) with four runs in the first off winning pitcher Roman Colon (3-0). Bucky Jacobsen connected for a two-run home run and Corey Erickson followed with a solo shot for the Smokies. Tennessee added another run on Caonabo Cosme's RBI single in the second before Greenville's fourth.
Rhett Parrott (1-3) faced 10 batters in the fourth and the Smokies committed two errors to aid the Braves comeback. Parrott walked Adam LaRoche and Bill McCarthy singled with one out. Cory Aldridge bounced a ball to first, but instead of getting an inning ending double play, Bucky Jacobsen's throw sailed into left field allowing one run to score and setting the stage for Jurries' home run.
In the sixth inning Parrott allowed a lead off single and was replaced by Kevin Sprague. Sprague allowed five consecutive singles, including two-run hits from Colon and LaRoche, before the rain halted play with two men on board and no one out in the sixth.
Greenville and Tennessee will continue their series Thursday night at 7:15. Dan Haren (5-0, 0.88) will start against Matt Belisle (1-4, 6.28).
