Mississippi Braves News Release

GREENVILLE, SC -- Solid pitching and a five-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the third inning led the Greenville Braves to a 6-3 win over the visiting Orlando Rays in Sunday afternoon action at Greenville Municipal Stadium. Starter Adam Wainwright (5-2) scattered 4 hits and struck out seven in 5.2 innings of work to pick up the win.

G-Braves catcher Bryce Terveen opened the third inning with a walk, but Rays' starter Jose Veras (2-6) was able to record two quick outs. Center fielder Ryan Langerhans then came to the plate and stroked a double to left to extend his hitting streak to eight games. First baseman Adam LaRoche followed with a walk to load the bases. Terveen would come in to score on a wild pitch just seconds later. Left fielder Bill McCarthy then doubled to right center field, driving in two runs. Designated hitter Jason Fitzgerald capped off the scoring barrage with a two-run home run to make the score 5-0.

G-Braves pitchers were able to hold onto the lead as they recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed only seven hits, three of them from Rays' left fielder Frank Moore. LaRoche, McCarthy, and Fitzgerald all had two hits apiece for the G-Braves.

With the victory, the G-Braves took three of four games from the Rays and improved their overall record to 30-30. The Rays fell to 27-34 with the loss.
