June 8, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The second game of the double header between the Mobile BayBears and Jacksonville Suns was suspended as they eclipsed the Southern League curfew of 12:50 am. The game will be resumed Sunday night at 6:00 with the BayBears leading 15-9 heading to the top of the seventh inning. The regularly scheduled game will then be played at 7:05.
In game one, the BayBears scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and used an outstanding start form Cory Stewart to defeat the Suns, 1-0. Stewart (5-4) threw five and two-thirds innings of no-hit ball, striking out nine. He ran out of gas on the humid night however, walking the last three batters he faced, before being lifted. Bryan Gaal struck out Victor Diaz with the bases loaded to end the scare. Rusty Tucker Earned his 16th save of the season working a scoreless seventh inning. Tucker gave up two singles in the frame, the only hits in the game by Jacksonville.
The BayBears scored the lone run of the game in the first inning. Todd Donovan led off with a single and stole second, Rico Washington walked and Jon Knott was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Khalil Greene scored Donovan as he lined a single up the middle. That would be all Edwin Jackson would allow the BayBears in his five innings.
The BayBears and Suns will conclude their series Sunday night at 7:05. LHP Roger Deago (4-3; 4.59) will start on the mound for Mobile against Jacksonville RHP Joel Hanrahan (6-2; 2.32).
The BayBears have announced a scheduling change for the San Diego Padres tryout camp at Hank Aaron Stadium. The camp will now be held on Saturday, June 28th at 10:00 am.
