G-Braves Lose Close Game to Tides, 10-9

The Norfolk Tides defeated the Gwinnett Braves 10-9 on Tuesday night at Harbor Park. The G-Braves and Tides combined for 16 RBI during the game. Joe Thurston hit his 5th home run of the year. Gwinnett (26-32) remains in second place in the International League South and 8.5 games behind Durham. Norfolk (26-34) remains in fourth place in the IL South and 9.5 games behind Durham.

It Was Over When: In the bottom of the 8th inning with the score tied at 9, Tides' Blake Davis scored on a sacrifice fly to put up the deciding run.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter Jose Ortegano pitched 5 innings and allowed 6 R/ER on 8 hits. Cory Gearrin (0-3) was credited for the loss by allowing the deciding run.

At the plate: Thurston went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Mitch Jones went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Matt Young went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Brandon Erbe allowed 5 R (4 ER) in 5.0 IP. Kam Mickolio (2-2) earned the win, striking out 2 in 1.2 IP. Dennis Sarfate earned his 5th save of the year.

At the plate: Robert Andino went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and 2 runs scored.

On Deck: Gwinnett faces off against Norfolk in game two of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. at Harbor Park. G-Braves RHP Tim Gustafson (5-3, 5.74 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Armando Gabino (2-0, 2.73 ERA) of the Tides.
