Mississippi Braves News Release
CHATTANOOGA, TN - Third baseman Santiago Perez went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI leading Chattanooga to an 8-3 win Monday night over the Greenville Braves at BellSouth Park. The Braves, now losers of five straight games, have allowed 48 runs over the stretch. The streak marks Greenville's longest slide in 2003.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning, Perez keyed a two-run rally off Roman Colon (3-1) with an RBI double scoring Ray Olmedo, who had opened the frame with a single. Perez then scored when he stole third base and came home on a throwing error by catcher Bryce Terveen to make it 3-1.
Greenville cut the deficit to 3-2 with a run in the seventh inning off reliever Paul Darnell. Bill McCarthy doubled home James Jurries. However the Braves could only tally once in the frame despite garnering five hits. Twice G-Braves baserunners were thrown at a third base.
Chattanooga put the game out of reach against righthander Kevin Barry in the bottom of the eighth inning. Leading 5-3, the Lookouts scored three times, twice on a triple by former G-Brave first baseman Chris Haas, making the final margin 8-3.
The Braves banged out 14 hits on the night, but stranded ten baserunners, seven of them in scoring position.
The clubs meet in the fifth and final game of the series on Tuesday at 7:15pm. Righthanders Matt Belisle (1-4) for Greenville and Josh Hall (1-4) for Chattanooga will pitch.
