Jacksonville, FLA - Orlando answered Jacksonville's Monday offensive outburst with one of their own Tuesday, blasting four home runs and taking advantage of four Suns miscues en route to a 9-4 over Jacksonville.
Jonny Gomes hit two home runs and added a double for Orlando, which won for the sixth time in their last eight games and raised their record to 16-22 on the season. Matt Diaz went 2-5 with a homer, double, three runs and three RBI, while Frank Moore went 4-5 with a homer, two RBI and a run scored. Jacksonville also did all it could to help Orlando, committing a league- and season-high six errors in the contest.
Brian Stokes (2-3) picked up the win after holding the Suns to four runs (two earned) on six hits in 6.0 innings. Stokes also struck out five while walking only two. Mark Malaska and John Benedetti tossed three innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out three in closing out the game.
With the win the Rays took their third straight series and raised their record to 9-3 in the month of May. The Rays will return to Orlando to enjoy an off day tomorrow before taking on the Mobile BayBears in a four-game series at Cracker Jack Stadium at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex starting Thursday. St. Petersburg native Doug Waechter (2-2, 3.00) will start for the Rays.
