
Stewart leads BayBears to victory

Mobile, Ala. â BayBears starting pitcher Cory Stewart had his fifth consecutive strong outing, as he led Mobile to victory in their series finale against the Carolina Mudcats, 2-0, in front of 2,547 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Stewart (4-2) earned his fourth straight win throwing seven shutout innings, giving up only two his while striking out seven. The Mudcats never threatened against Stewart who also only issued one walk.
The BayBears win avoided a sweep at the hands of Carolina in their four-game series. Mobile took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the first as Rico Washington hit a line drive homerun over the right field wall. The solo shot gave Mobile a 1-0 lead and ws his fifth of the season.
Vince Faison scored the BayBears' second and final run in the second inning. He led off with a solid single to right, stole second base and advanced to third on Mudcats' catcher, Ryan Jorgensen's throw that sailed into center field. Humberto Quintero drove in Faison with a sacrifice fly on the next pitch.
The BayBears, along with the entire Southern League, will take Wednesday off. They travel to Orlando to begin a four-game series with the Rays which begins Thursday night at 6:05 Central Time.
