Knoxville Smokies News Release
Huntsville, Ala. - Danny Haren (6-0) struck out a season high 11 batters over seven innings and lowered his league leading ERA to 0.82 as Tennessee (24-14) blanked Huntsville (22-15) 1-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Caonabo Cosme stroked two doubles and drove home the winning run in the seventh. Cosme doubled off reliever Derek Lee (4-1) to score John Nelson, who singled two batters earlier.
Haren stayed undefeated by getting off to a hot start. The right-hander struck out 9 of the first 14 batters and retired the final eight batters he faced. Haren worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning. Huntsville used two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out, but Haren notched struck out Ryan Knox and got Dave Krynzel to ground out to end the inning.
The Smokies have an off day Wednesday and return to Smokies Park Thursday to host Chattanooga. Rick Ankiel (1-1, 9.53) will make his second start of the season in the 11:30 a.m. game. Ryan Mottl (0-2, 2.73) will start for Chattanooga.
