G-Braves, Delgado Shutout Yankees, 1-0

The G-Braves allowed only 4-hits and defeated the SWB Yankees by a score of 1-0 on Thursday night at PNC Field in Scranton, PA. RHP Randall Delgado improved to 2-0 in only his second start at the Triple-A level. The Gwinnett Braves (66-53) remain two games behind the Durham Bulls (67-50) in the IL South standings.

It Was Over When: In the top of the 2nd inning, 2B Brandon Hicks took RHP Lance Pendleton deep, for his 15th HR of the year. That was all the G-Braves needed to earn the victory.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: RHP Randall Delgado made his second start since joining the G-Braves and was spectacular once again. Delgado tossed 7.0 3-hit shutout innings, walking two and striking out six. RHP Cory Gearrin relieved Delgado and tossed 2.0 IP allowing only a single hit and struck out two, on his way to his second save of the season.

At the plate: Hicks home run was the difference maker in the game. The second baseman finished the night going 1-for-3 with the HR. C Wil Nieves was perfect on the night going 3-for-3. SS Tyler Pastornicky's 16 game on-base streak came to an end on Thursday night when he went 0-for-4.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: RHP Lance Pendleton started the game for the Yankees and earned his 4th loss of the year, tossing 5.0 IP allowing 1 R/ER on 6 H with a BB and 2 K's. RHP Andrew Brackman relieved the righty and tossed 3.0 IP allowing a hit with 2 K's. Finally, RHP Buddy Carlyle closed out the game for the baby bombers, tossing 1.0 IP with 2 K's.

At the Plate: The Yankees were shutout on Thursday night and only managed a total of four hits. DH Jorge Vazquez had the only extra-base hit, a double in the bottom of the second. He finished the night going 1-for-3. RF Chris Dickerson, C Jesus Montero, and CF Greg Golson had the other three hits, all singles.

On Deck: The Gwinnett Braves head back home to Coolray Field to take on the Pawtucket Red Sox in a four game series beginning at 7:05 on Friday night. The Braves will send out RHP Julio Teheran (12-2, 2.16) vs. RHP Tony Pena, Jr. (8-5, 3.63) for the PawSox.
