Knights Can't Overcome PawSox

FORT MILL, S.C. - The Pawtucket Red Sox used a three run first inning to their advantage as they were able to defeat the Charlotte Knights 3-2 at Knights Stadium.

Charlotte starting pitcher Doug Davis struggled in the first inning allowing the only Red Sox runs of the game off three hits and two walks. The Red Sox used an RBI sacrifice fly from Brett Carroll to score their first run. It was followed by back-to-back RBI singles from Luis Exposito and Jose Iglesias. Davis would settle down pitching his next 5.1 innings scoreless and striking out eight.

The Charlotte offense managed only four hits in the game which included an RBI single from Josh Phegley in the fourth inning and an RBI from Drew Garcia.

Pawtucket's Tommy Hottovy earned his first win of the year and former Knights pitcher Randy Williams was credited with a hold after allowing one run in 2.1 innings of work. Michael Bowden earned his 14th save of the year. Davis took the loss as his record falls to 1-3.

The Knights begin a four-game series with the Norfolk Tides tomorrow at 7:15 PM at Knights Stadium. RHP Joe Bisenius will start for Charlotte and Norfolk has not yet named a starter.
