Mississippi Braves News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. - West Tenn starter Angel Guzman struck out eleven, and second baseman John Powers drove in the only run of the night as the Jaxx beat host Greenville 1-0 at Greenville Municipal Stadium. The G-Braves threatened in the ninth with a runner in scoring position with only one out, but reliever David Cash shut the door, picking up his second save in as many nights.

G-Braves starter Roman Colon pitched well, allowing only four hits over seven innings, striking out three, and walking none. Colon gave up his lone earned run in the fourth, when he gave up three consecutive singles to begin the inning, that last of which was Power's RBI base hit.

Colon's performance was not enough, as Guzman picked up his first 'AA' win of his career with seven strong innings of his own. After allowing back-to-back base hits in both the first and second innings, Guzman rolled. The right hander struck out two batters in five of the seven innings he pitched, including four straight to finish up the sixth and start the seventh.

The lone offensive highlight for the G-Braves came from second baseman Richard Lewis, who went 2-3 with a stolen base and a sacrifice bunt in the ninth. Cory Aldridge, James Jurries, and Bryce Terveen all struck out twice in the losing effort.

Game Notes

The G-Braves struck out thirteen times tonight, all but one were swinging strikeouts. The four game series concludes Friday night at Greenville Municipal Stadium at 7:15 pm. John Smoltz Bobblehead Dolls, provided by the SUDIA and Pet Dairy, will be passed out to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. WSSL 100.5 FM, Charter Communications, and The Greenville Journal will present a firework show following the game.
