ORLANDO - The Orlando Rays (23-29) lost 3-2 to the Jacksonville Suns (25-27) spoiling John Rocker's return to Orlando, Thursday night at Cracker Jack Stadium.
Rocker was designated for assignment Tuesday but resigned today with the Devil Rays. The southpaw pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out the side in his return.
Jon Switzer (3-5) had a strong outing, scattering three runs on seven hits over eight innings. Offensively, Amado German was 2-for-4 and scored two runs while Pete LaForest and Jace Brewer both drove in one run apiece for Orlando. The O-Rays struck early scoring a run in the first inning but were then held scoreless for six innings before German scored on a double Brewer.
Suns pitcher Tommy Farmer (4-3) pitched eight innings allowing three runs on seven hits. Jason Frasor pitched one inning for his first save for the Jacksonville this season.
Orlando and the Suns will host the last game of the four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m., with RHP Heath Totten (3-4, 4.73) pitching for the Suns, while the Rays counter with RHP Jim Magrane (4-2, 4.29).
