
G-Braves Beat Tides, 8-4

Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Gwinnett Braves beat the Norfolk Tides 8-4 on Sunday afternoon, and have split the first two contests in the final three game series of the season at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The G-Braves (68-67) remain 16.0 games behind International League South leaders Durham, who clinched the division already, in second place. Gwinnett is now 6.0 games back of Wild Card leaders Columbus. The Tides (62-74) are in last place in the division, 22.0 games out (all numbers at press time).
It Was Over When: Down 4-2 going into the bottom of the 7th inning, the G-Braves lineup awakened and batted around in the inning - ultimately scoring 6 runs in the frame.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Starting RHP Brandon Beachy went 6.0 IP and allowed 4 R but just 1 ER on 6 hits while striking out 5 batters. RHP Michael Broadway (3-0) went 2.0 IP of scoreless ball to earn the victory. Closer Craig Kimbrel worked a scoreless 9th inning on the same day he was optioned back to Gwinnett (after a 1 day stay with Atlanta) to close out the game.
At the plate: DH Barbaro Canizares had another big day to solidify his charge toward the IL batting title, going 2-for-4 with a homer and 4 RBI that raised his batting average to .337. Left fielder Matt Young went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and center fielder Nate McLouth was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Wes Timmons returned to the lineup for the first time since the last homestand, picking up right where he left off with a 2-for-3 performance.
The opposition:
On the Mound: Norfolk LHP Troy Patton went 6.0 IP and allowed just 2 R/ER on 4 hits but got a no decision after his bullpen came unraveled. LHP Alberto Castillo (1-2) went 0.2 IP and allowed 2 R/ER in the decisive 7th inning, getting the loss for his part.
At the plate: Left fielder Nolan Reimold was 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace the Tides.
On Deck: Gwinnett wraps up its final homestand of the season, taking on the Norfolk Tides in the final home game of the season at 7:05 p.m. on Monday. The G-Braves will send LHP Scott Diamond (3-0, 2,91 ERA) to the mound against LHP Zach Britton (3-3, 3.09 ERA) for the Tides. The game will be broadcast on the radio at WDUN-550 AM.
Etc: Tomorrow is the last game of the season for the Gwinnett Braves at Coolray Field, and the team is sending fans out with one "Last Hurrah" for 2010. Fans can take advantage of half priced tickets to the game, a $2 cart featuring drinks and snacks and other special contests and prizes throughout the contest.
