The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves won their fourth game in a row as they beat the Norfolk Tides 5-3 in the final game of the series at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The Braves swept the four game series and have now won five of their last seven games on their current ten game road trip. The Braves (10-5) also hold on to first place in the International League South division.
It Was Over When: In the top of the fourth inning, OF Wilkin Ramirez lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring C J. C. Boscan from third base. It was the sixth RBI for Ramirez in the series.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: RHP Jacob Thompson (1-0) earned his first Triple-A victory. His line: 5.1 IP, 5H, 3 R/ER, 4 BB, and 5 K. RHP Anthony Varvaro replaced Thompson in the sixth: 1.2 IP, 2K. RHP Scott Proctor worked a scoreless eighth: 1 IP, 1H, 3K. RHP Stephen Marek worked the ninth and earned his first save: 1 IP, 1H, 2K. At the plate: DH Mauro Gomez upped his league leading batting average to .426 with a 3-for-5 night. Boscan and OF Jose Constanza each had two hits. Boscan also drove in two runs and scored a run as well.
The Opposition: On the Mound: LHP Michael Ballard (1-2) suffered the loss, going 4 IP, 7 H, 4 R/ER, 4 BB, and 4 K's.
At the plate: 3B Josh Bell continued his hot hitting going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. C Craig Tatum also had a nice day, going 1-for-4 with a 2B and 2 RBI.
On Deck: Gwinnett begins a three game series in Charlotte tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. Braves LHP Mike Minor (0-0, 1.50 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Brandon Hynick (0-1, 7.20 ERA) of the Knights.
