Bulls use long ball to win on long night

Durham, NC - J.J. Furmaniak's sixth inning homer proved to be the difference as the Durham Bulls knocked off the Charlotte Knights, 6-5 on Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The game was delayed by 2 hours and four minutes due to rain, then ended just before midnight at 11:51.

Durham got on the board in the first inning highlighted by Brandon Guyer's two-run homer to center field giving the Bulls a 3-0 advantage. Charlotte took the lead in the 2nd inning on a grand slam by Gookie Dawkins to make it 4-3.

The score remained that way until the fifth inning when Lasting Milledge's sacrifice fly plated Tyler Flowers to give the Knights a two-run advantage. Durham tied the score in the bottom of the fifth inning on Chris Carter's RBI double scoring Desmond Jennings followed by Russ Canzler's double scoring Carter to make it 5-5.

RHP Dane De La Rosa (2-1) picked up the win in relief pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts. RHP Deunte Heath (0-1) took the loss allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work. RHP Brandon Gomes notched his fourth save of the year with two scoreless innings.
