Ottawa Fury FC News Release

OTTAWA - Ottawa Fury FC forward Jimmy Shammar Sanon has been selected by the Haiti National Team for their upcoming CONCACAF Nations League qualifying match against Saint Lucia on Tuesday, October 16.

"It is always a big deal when you get called up to the National Team, especially when it's for an important match like the CONCACAF Nations League," commented Ottawa Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman. "It's always an honour to have someone from Fury FC representing on the international stage. This is big for Jimmy, big for his career, and we wish him the best with this major opportunity."

This will be Sanon's third National Team call-up with Haiti at the senior level, his most recent coming last May as he faced Messi and Argentina in a 2018 FIFA World Cup preparatory match. He had made his debut on October 10, 2017 in a Friendly Match against Japan, playing 59 minutes in the 3-3 draw. Sanon had previously participated in the 2017 U-20 CONCACAF Championship wearing Haiti colours, featuring in two matches, collecting one goal and one assist.

"I'm very happy to be selected to represent my country," commented Sanon. "It's always such an honour for me because there is a lot of talent and potential in this group, and we can do great things in the future. Every time I get to put on the jersey, it's an honour to defend those colours and get to represent all Haitians out there."

Haiti is one of the 34 participating member associations battling in this qualifying round of the CONCACAF Nations League, which also includes Canada.

Sanon will be away on National Team duty from October 9 to 17, making him unavailable for selection for Fury FC's last regular season match on October 13th.

Meanwhile, Fury FC will be fighting a battle of their own on Saturday, October 13 as they host the Charleston Battery at TD Place (KO 2 p.m.). With six clubs vying for the final four spots in the Eastern Conference all within five points of each other, a win for Ottawa would go a long way in securing a chance at a post-season run.
