Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the final game of their 2014 ECHL exhibition schedule, the Indy Fuel defeated the Evansville IceMen 3-0 on Friday at the Fairgrounds Coliseum in Indianapolis. With the win, the Fuel capped their preseason schedule at a perfect 3-0-0-0 heading into the team's regular-season opener on October 17th vs. the Fort Wayne Komets.
The Fuel seized control of the game early in the first, when after a deft cycle play by Klarc Wilson on the right side of the Evansville zone, Indy defenseman Nick Jones swept a centering pass to the front of the IceMen net and Garrett Klotz poked home his first goal of the preseason to make it 1-0 Fuel. Later in the period, Klotz found Indy blueliner Ildar Telyakov on the right point, and after the St. Petersburg, Russia native smoked a low slapper on net, Wilson chased home the rebound to make it 2-0 Fuel on the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada native's first goal of the Fuel's exhibition schedule.
In the third period, the Fuel extended their lead as Rhett Bly, for the third time in as many games, found some room in the offensive zone and buried a rebound tapper at 6:34 that made it 3-0 Fuel. After Sean Bonar stopped each of the 23 pucks he faced in two periods of action on Sunday, newly acquired goaltender Cody Reichard turned in a perfect seven-save performance in the third period to preserve the Fuel's first-ever shutout.
Next up for the Fuel, it's the team's inaugural regular season ECHL game vs. the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday, October 17th at 7:35 pm at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative inaugural game rally towel and are encouraged to come early for the "Fuel Fan Fest" on the Indiana State Fairgrounds from 5-7 pm. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Jose Cuervo Pregame Show" on CBS Sports 1430 with Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play, immediately following coverage of Roncalli Rebels High School Football.
In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL.
