Morehead City Marlins News Release

Morehead City, N.C. - A team can live and die with the long ball and the Morehead City Marlins did just that in a 6-0 victory over the Wilson Tobs on a beautiful Friday night at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City, NC. Out of the six runs the Marlins amassed in the ball game, four came via the solo home run.

Chase McDonald played a huge part in the Marlins victory right from the start. The power hitting first baseman reached on an error and then advanced to third on a ground ball to the right side. He then scored on a balk by Wilson starting pitcher, John Valek III. Later in the inning Hayden Jones gave the Marlins an insurance run with his first home run of the season over the left field wall.

McDonald hit his first of two home runs to lead off the fourth inning. The long shot displayed some opposite field power from McDonald. The Marlins added two more runs on back to back no doubt homers from Ryan Muno and McDonald. The only other run in the ball game came on an RBI single off the bat of Cole Billingsley in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ben Fuchs was dominant on the mound for the Morehead City Marlins. The southpaw tossed eight innings of shutout baseball, allowing just five hits while striking out five and walking two. Taylor Thurber tossed a scoreless ninth to preserve the win for the Marlins. Valek III fell to 2-1 on the season with the loss for the Tobs.

With the win the Marlins improved to 8-7 on the season and jumped over the .500 mark for the second time in the 2013 CPL season. Morehead City travels to Peninsula to take on the Pilots on Saturday night. They then return home on Sunday to host the Edenton Steamers at Big Rock Stadium. First pitch for Sunday's ballgame is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
