SwampDogs Fall Short against Sharks
June 14, 2013 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
The Fayetteville SwampDogs battled hard against the Wilmington Sharks again, but the Sharks snuck by and beat the Dogs in a 4-3 fashion in front of a standing-room only crowd.
Jimmie Davis started on the hill and four and two-thirds innings of two run baseball. Davis had three strikeouts and five walks in route to a no decision. The Sharks took a 2-0 lead after the second inning after a walk and a triple to lead off the inning.
The SwampDogs would answer back in the third after Adam Walton and Chase Rader reached base to lead off the inning. Mitchell Kranson and Michael Timm would drive them in later on in the inning to knot it up at two.
Cody Dix came in to the game in relief of Davis to record the final out of the fifth, but he couldn't seem to find his groove in the sixth and he was pulled after walking the first two batters. Both those runs would come across to score, giving Wilmington a 4-2 lead.
But the SwampDogs bats wouldn't go away easy. The Dogs were in business after Kranson and Timm were beaned on consecutive pitches. Bill Bereszniewicz drove in one run with one out in the frame, but that's all the offense the SwampDogs could generate.
On a bright note, the Dogs may have found their late inning reliever as Wright State redshirt sophomore pitched in his first game for Fayetteville in the ninth and he had three stike outs in the inning thanks to a good mix of his low 90s fastball, curveball and slider.
Fayetteville hits the road for a game against the division-leading Edenton Steamers before coming home Sunday on Father's Day for a four game home stint.
