Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS,NC--- For the second straight night, the Intimidators used another big inning to beat the Greenville Drive, with Tyler Frost's three-run shot proving to be the difference maker in the 4-1 Kannapolis victory Friday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health.
With one out in the fourth inning, Tate Blackman reached base on an infield single to the Greenville third baseman, followed by a Michael Hickman strikeout and Laz Rivera single on a line drive to centerfield. With runners at first and second, Frost (2) smacked the eighth pitch of his at-bat to left field, clearing the wall to put the Intimidators up 3-0.
One inning later in the fifth, Johan Cruz led off the inning with a single, reaching second base on a wild pitch with Justin Yurchak at the plate. After a six-pitch at-bat that ended with a Yurchak walk, Craig Dedelow reached on a single to left field, loading the bases for Anthony Villa. After swinging at the first pitch of his plate appearance, Anthony Villa watched the next four pitches into the catcher's glove, getting a free pass to first base, allowing Cruz to walk in from third.
Parker Rigler (W, 1-0) pulled his weight on the mound for the Intimidators, striking out the side in the third, proving to be three of his seven strikeouts on the night. Rigler went five strong innings for the I's, only giving up one hit along the way against the Drive (3-12).
Yosmer Solorzano and Tyler Johnson shut the game down for manager Justin Jirschele and Kannapolis, with Johnson striking out four batters in just two innings of work.
The Intimidators will look to take the series Saturday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
