Adirondack Frostbite News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY -- The Adirondack Frostbite improved to 9-1-1 in their last 11 games, and to 9-0-0 against Richmond this season, with a 3-2 shootout win over the RiverDogs on Sunday in front of 2,056 fans at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
In an evenly played first period, it was Richmond taking the 1-0 lead, as Joey Bastien beat Derek Gustafson at the 19:16 mark.
The Frostbite tied the game midway through the second period, just two seconds after a power-play chance expired. Mark Hurtubise's shot from the right-wing circle was deflected in by Ryan Prentice, who scored his first goal of the season.
Richmond retook the lead with a power-play tally at 7:44 of the third. Bastien fired a cross-ice pass to Mike Oliveira in the right-wing circle, and he one-timed a shot past Derek Gustafson to make it 2-1.
Adirondack tied the game with a power-play tally of its own at 12:35. RiverDogs' goaltender Doug Groenestege made the initial save, but Ryan Bennett put the rebound home, scoring his eighth of the season, and his sixth in the last five games.
In the shootout, neither team scored through the first five rounds. In round six, Gustafson stopped the RiverDogs' Jason Cassells, setting the stage for Hurtubise, who beat Groenestege to give the Frostbite their third straight win. Adirondack is now just four points behind first-place Danbury with five games in hand.
The Frostbite host the Trashers on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. During the first intermission, Nicole Tournoux and Paul Harrington will be married at center ice. Tickets are available at the Glens Falls Civic Center Box Office, or by calling (518) 798-0202.
