
Frostbite move into first after sweep of Trashers

WEEK IN REVIEW (3-0-0):
Adirondack began the week one point out of first place with back-to-back home games against the Danbury Trashers. With starting goaltender Derek Gustafson out for the week the rookie out of the University of Omaha-Nebraska, Kris Tebbs was forced to step up. On Wednesday night Tebbs and the Frostbite defense played had one of their best outings of the season stopping all thirty Danbury shots as Tebbs picked up his first professional shutout 3-0 and the Frostbite moved into first place in the East by a point. On Friday night Adirondack extended their first place lead to two points by beating the Trashers in a shootout 5-4. It was a physical game that went back an forth all evening long. Danbury tied up the game late in the third on a power play goal heading into a shootout. Tebbs stopped four of five shots, while Hugo Belanger and Sylvain Cloutier scored. The Frostbite capped of the week with their most exciting game of the season. With the game tied at two a piece heading late into the third period Cloutier picked up a power play goal with 1:24 left in the game. Aaron Brand tied the game with 34 seconds left, his second goal of the game, but only eleven second late Trevor Segstro scored to get the Frostbite the 4-3 win.
Frostbite â 3 vs. Danbury â 0
Wednesday, February 2nd
The Adirondack Frostbite moved into first place in the Eastern Division for the first time this season following a 3-0 shutout of the Danbury Trashers. Rookie goaltender Kris Tebbs stopped 30 shots to earn his first shutout and third victory of the season. Frank Bakrlik, J.F. Labarre and David Burgess each scored for the Frostbite. After a scoreless first period, Adirondack took the 1-0 lead in the second on a hard shot by Bakrlik, which beat Trashers goalie Scott Stirling. In the third, the Frostbite scored twice in 25 seconds to give themselves a cushion. Labbare first on a goal, which went off Stirling and in, followed by Burgess who put home a rebound on a shot taken by Ryan Bennett. The Frostbite defense and Tebbs held strong killing off four Trashers power plays as Adirondack earned its' fifth shutout victory of the season.
Frostbite â 5 vs. Danbury â 4 (so)
Friday, February 4th
The Adirondack Frostbite battled back and forth all night with the Danbury Trashers, but prevailed in a shootout 5-4 to extend their lead to two points for first place in the Eastern Division. Combined the Frostbite and Trashers scored six power play goals, while Scott Drevitch had a three point night for Adirondack and Kris Tebbs picked up his fourth win in net. Danbury took the early 1-0 lead when on the power play, Bruce Richardson picked up a loose puck just outside the crease and slid it past Tebbs. Adirondack answered back with a power play goal of its own. Inside the far circle Sylvain Cloutier threw a hard shot towards the net which went off the post and in past Trashers net minder Scott Stirling. The Frostbite scored twice midway through the second period. Adirondack was awarded a five on three when J.F. David received two minutes for roughing and Nic Bilotto got two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. Drevitch scored on the five on three while David Burgess tallied on the five on four to put the Frostbite up 3-1. Danbury scored its only goal of the period just three seconds into a power play. The goal was a hard shot from just inside the blue line by Mario Larocque. The Frostbite worked their cushion back to two goals early in the third as Frank Bakrlik slipped the puck past Stirling from right outside the crease. The lead was quickly cut back down to one when Doug Christiansen scored only 28 seconds later. The Trashers tied the game at four at the eight minute mark this time a power play goal from Mike Bayrack. For the last twelve minutes of the game both teams were physical and battled back and forth, but neither scored as the game went into a shootout. Jeff Daw quickly put the Trashers up 1-0 in the shootout as J.F. Labarre was unable to score for the Frostbite, but the next two Trashers shooters were stopped by Tebbs, while Cloutier and Hugo Belanger scored to put Adirondack up 2-1 in the shootout after three shooters had gone on each side. Neither team scored in round four and in round five Greg Goodnough got the puck underneath Tebbs who fell on it just before it crossed the line sending the Frostbite to their fourth straight victory and a two point lead in the East.
Frostbite â 4 vs. Port Huron â 3
Saturday, February 5th
Trevor Segstro scored with 23 seconds left in regulation to give the Frostbite a 4-3 win over the Port Huron Beacons in front of 3,706 fans at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The goal capped off a wild last two minutes of play. Adirondack went up 3-2 on a Sylvain Cloutier power play goal with 1:24 left in regulation. The Beacons pulled their goalie with a minute left on the clock and Aaron Brand scored his second goal of the game with just 34 seconds remaining. With the game looking like it was headed for a shootout, off the face off Segstro picked up the puck, skated down low, made a pass to Cloutier who then gave it back to Segstro and scored.
TEAM NOTES:
IN THE HUNT: Heading into tonight the Frostbite are tied for first in the East and have one of the best records in the UHL. Right now the Frostbite have three games in hand on Danbury, two on Richmond and four on Elmira. The Frostbite are 17 points up on the third place Richmond RiverDogs. Adirondack has the second best record in the UHL even though they have played the third fewest games. Only two points separate the Frostbite with the highest point total in the UHL. Adirondack has the second best road record in the league and the same point total as tonight's opponent.
SCORING LEADER: Heading into tonight Hugo Belanger is second in the league in scoring at 70 points. Belanger is one point behind Muskegon's Robin Bouchard. Belanger also has the second best shooting percentage in the league converting 22.5% of the time and is third in the league in assist with 47 and power play points with 30. He's also four points shy of 1,200 on his career.
STREAKING: The Frostbite are on a three game road winning streak and a five game home winning streak. This is Adirondack's longest home winning streak of the season. The Frostbite are one win shy of their season high winning streak of six games. The Frostbite are 22-2-3 when scoring first and 22-0-0 when leading after the second period. Adirondack is 8-2-0 in their last ten games. Frank Bakrlik is on a four game point scoring streak. Adirondack has the second best goals for per game average at 3.43.
DREVITCH LEADS THE D: Scott Drevitch retook the scoring lead amongst defensemen after a four point weekend with 37 points (11g, 26a). That's a point ahead of Missouri's Mat Snesrud. Drevitch also leads all blueliners in goals, power play goals with six and power play points with 21. He's second amongst d-men in shots with 152.
RECORD BREAKING: Frank Littlejohn moved into fourth on the Adirondack (UHL) All-Time Assist List with 110 and is now only two behind Kevin St. Jacques for third, while Drevitch is tied for seventh on the same list. Cloutier is one power play goal shy of Kevin St. Jacques for 4th on the Adirondack (UHL) All-Time List. Drevitch recorded the 900th point of his career Friday night and is four assists shy of 700. Segstro is two games shy of 100 on his career. Littlejohn is four games shy of his 400th pro game.
POWER PLAY POINTS: Adirondack continues to make opponents pay when they go on the power play. Coming into tonight the Frostbite have the second best power play in the league, converting 22.6% of the time. Adirondack has the best road power play unit. Belanger leads the Frostbite in power play points with 30.
TEBBS TERRIFIC: With Frostbite starting goaltender Derek Gustafson out for the week backup goalie Kris Tebbs has picked up the slack. In his first five appearances Tebbs is 5-0 with a 2.48 goals against average and a save percentage of 90.5%. He recorded his first shutout 2/2 vs. Danbury 3-0 and his first shootout victory 2/4 vs. Danbury.
OUT OF THE BOX: Even though it was a high penalty weekend for the Frostbite they are still last in the league in average penalty minutes per game with 18.9. The Frostbite are last in the league in majors and minors.
CLOSE CALLS: This season the Frostbite have been involved in 27 games where they either won or lost by a goal. In those games the Frostbite are 17-4-6. Only four times this season have the Frostbite either won or lost by four goals or more.
VERSUS THE CENTRAL: This year the Frostbite are 9-2-2 against Central Division teams and 5-1-2 at home.

The Adirondack Frostbite will play its second of four games this season against the Fort Wayne Komets tonight, two at home and two on the road. The Frostbite are 0-1 against the Komets this season, falling in the home opener 3-1. Trevor Segstro leads Adirondack in head-to-head scoring against Fort Wayne with a goal. Chris Grenville, Rub Guinn and Dan Stewart lead the Komets in head-to-head scoring against the Frostbite with a goal each. Adirondack all-time is 4-10-0 against Fort Wayne.
Adirondack at Kalamazoo â Friday February 11th
The Adirondack Frostbite will play its third and final game of the season against the Kalamazoo Wings Friday, one at home and two on the road. The Frostbite are 1-0-1 against the Beacons this season, falling in a shootout 5-4 in their last match-up. Hugo Belanger and Trevor Segstro lead Adirondack in head-to-head scoring against Kalamazoo with three points (1g, 2a). Gary Shaneberger leads the Wings in head-to-head scoring against the Frostbite with three points (1g, 2a). Adirondack all-time is 10-7-1 against Kalamazoo.
Adirondack at Rockford â Saturday February 12th
The Adirondack Frostbite will play its only game of the season against the Rockford IceHogs Saturday. Adirondack all-time is 14-7-2 against Rockford.
Adirondack at Quad City â Sunday February 13th
The Adirondack Frostbite will play its first of two games this season against the Quad City Mallards Sunday, both on the road. Adirondack all-time is 5-18-4 against Quad City.
