February 9, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that rookie goaltender Robert Gherson has been recalled to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Houston is the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild.

Gherson, a fifth round pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, has appeared in 22 games this season for the Mallards. The Toronto native is 9-7-4 with a 2.48 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. He was the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Month in January when he recorded a 2.01 goals against average and a .931 save percentage while going 4-1-2. This marks his second American League recall of 2004-05. Gherson did not see game action during a 15-day recall in December.

Gherson appeared in 189 Ontario League games over the last four seasons. Last year, Gherson played two games with the Sarnia Sting before being moved to the Owen Sound Attack. Overall, Gherson appeared in 44 OHL games while compiling a 3.17 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. He was one of the OHL's leading goaltenders in 2002-03. The Toronto native played 49 games with Sarnia going 26-12-7 with a 2.78 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Gherson was third in the league in wins, eighth in save percentage and nine in goals against average.

Gherson's recall is the seventh to the American League this season for the Mallards. Current Mallards Greg Barber and Colin Peters earned recalls to the AHL. Former Mallards Martin Wilde and Paul Cabana also received call-ups this year. The Mallards enjoy one of the best affiliation networks in all of double-A hockey. The team has official affiliations with the Hershey Bears, Portland Pirates and Chicago Wolves as well as working agreements with the Houston Aeros and Manitoba Moose.

The Mallards return home from a five-game road trip on Sunday vs. Adirondack. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at The MARK. It's Family Fun-Day Sunday featuring 2005 Calendar Posters courtesy of Bryant Heating and Cooling. The first 2,500 fans will receive the poster featuring the 2004-05 Mallards. The Mallards are hosting a pre-game skate from 1:15-2:00 p.m. at The MARK.

The Mallards are in Missouri tonight to face the River Otters. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The First Capital Financial Pre-Game Show begins at 6:40 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230. After the game, stay tuned for the Allstate Insurance Del Newton/Christy Cox Post-Game Show.
