Adirondack Frostbite News Release
ELMIRA, NY - Hugo Belanger tallied four points to help lead the Adirondack Frostbite to a 5-4 win over the Elmira Jackals on Friday night at First Arena.
The teams traded goals in a wild first period that featured 29 shots on goal and a 3-3 score after 20 minutes.
Elmira struck first at 7:43 as Konstantin Kalmikov gathered in his own rebound on the near post and beat Derek Gustafson high to the stick side for his seventh goal of the season.
The Frostbite answered the goal just 45 seconds later. Belanger fed a pass in front for Kevin Watters, and he was able to beat Nick Boucher with a quick shot for his team-leading 18th of the season.
After Mathieu Wathier scored his first of the season for the Jackals at 11:45, the Frostbite once again came back to tie the game at 14:53. Bob Rapoza's shot from the blue line was knocked down, but deflected right to Belanger in the right-wing circle, and he was able to slide a shot past Boucher for his 16th of the year.
The Jackals took another one-goal lead at 18:51 as Chris Chaput took a back-door pass from Jarrett Konkle and was able to beat Gustafson for his third point of the opening period.
But, the Frostbite came right back, and tied the game with just five seconds remaining in the period. Mark Hurtubise led a 3-on-1 rush across the Elmira line, and fed Scott Drevitch skating through the slot. Drevitch took a quick shot that rolled between Boucher's legs, and just across the line, for his fifth goal of the season.
Adirondack took its first lead of the night 11:10 into the second period, scoring a power-play goal. Kevin Watters took a shot from the left point that went through the traffic in front, and beat Boucher.
The Frostbite made it a two-goal advantage at 14:38. Belanger hit Mark Hurtubise skating down the right-wing side, and Hurtubise beat Boucher with a slap shot for his ninth goal of the season. Following the goal, Boucher was replaced in goal by Ryan McIntosh.
Elmira pulled within one with 2:34 remaining in the third period. Kamilkov centered a pass to Jarrett Konkle who beat Gustafson high to the glove side for his 18th goal of the season.
The Frostbite and Jackals play the back end of their home-and-home series on Saturday with a 7:35 p.m. face-off at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Following the game, join the Frostbite and Civic Center for a New Year's Eve Celebration in Heritage Hall. Tickets for both the game and the celebration are available at the Glens Falls Civic Center Box Office, or by phone at (518) 798-0202.
