Lancaster Stormers News Release
Emerson Frostad and Adam Godwin collected three hits apiece, including the tying and go-ahead knocks in the eighth inning as the Lancaster Barnstormers came from behind for a 6-5 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters Friday evening at Constellation Field.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak and kept Lancaster in first place, one-half game ahead of Somerset. Sugar Land dropped 2 1/2 off the pace.
With the Barnstormers trailing, 5-3, entering the eighth, Blake Gailen ignited a rally with a one-out single to center. Brad Boyer clubbed a triple into the right field corner to bring Lancaster to within one. Michael Nix (0-3) struck out Jaime Pedroza, but Frostad drilled a double into the left center field alley to tie the game. Skeeters manager Gary Gaetti brought Ryan Houston on to face Godwin, and the Lancaster center fielder responded with an RBI single to right.
Jesus Merchan had given Lancaster a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first, but Sugar Land used the long ball to reach Alan Johnson in the second. Ben Harrison tied the game with his eighth homer of the season, and, following a hit batter and error, Drew Locke blasted a three-run shot to the same left center alley for a 4-1 advantage.
Terry Tiffee drew Lancaster into a 4-3 deficit with a two-out, bases loaded single in the fifth.
Les Walrond (1-0) entered the game with one out in the sixth and spun 1 2/3 hitless innings to earn the win. Jeff Bennett crept out of the eighth, stranding runners at second and third when Fehlandt Lentini made a sliding catch in right on a line drive by Locke. Tim Hamulack survived a two-out walk in the ninth for his sixth save.
The Barnstormers square off against the Skeeters again on Saturday evening. Lancaster will send right-hander Mark Brackman (1-1) to the hill against lefty Bobby Livingston (1-2). Game time is 8:05 EDT.
